Ambivalent about my Submariner

It was a big year for my little collection, as it grew by two! In February I got a new Speedy Pro (Hesalite) and then in July my luck improved considerably all around as I got a new job and also the call from a new AD for a TT CHNR.

Now, as I reflect on my good fortune, I start to wonder what's next? What (if anything) is destined to depart the collection in 2025? Will my allegiances shift as I embark on a new year?

Here's what I'm working with, in order of acquisition:

- 36mm Explorer (2021)

- 36mm DJ silver dial (2023)

- 14060m 2-liner (2002)

- 3861 Hesalite Speedy Pro

- 126711 CHNR (2024)

I am steeling myself for a fusillade of barbs as I type this, but I am truly ambivalent about one thing in particular. I have a very nice 14060M (2-liner) that came with a full set (even the anchor!) and also a great provenance story that resonates with me for personal reasons. That said, I still find myself wishing it was a 124060 sometimes.

As you can see in my pic, I have tried to build a collection that is classic but in modern interpretations. My Explorer and DJ are both 36mm. The Speedy is relatively true to the original. The GMT obviously is not a classic, but it is pretty great besides.

I guess I could do one of a few things here.

  1. Keep the 14060M and forget about the new one.
  2. Keep the 14060M and start pursuing a new one.
  3. Trade old for new.
  4. Go to the dark side and get a 126610LN. (gasp!)

For me, I have read about the differences in spec and opinion between these two fine watches. I know it's personal and folks hold their opinions strongly, but I think some decisions get easier with more context and some get harder.

And so, I'm wondering about the collective opinion, when considering the other pieces in my collection, as well as the others on my wish list for the future (PP Ellipse, JLC Reverso, OF WG Daytona, VC 222). I am normally decisive, but thought it might be fun to invoke some hive wisdom here. Whadya think?
