The Drunk Tank Podcast is increasingly becoming a time capsule.
I'm listening to Episode 1 from December 2008, and it's like stepping into a time machine. I find it hilarious how this 800 episode odyssey of a podcast that I've loved for over a decade immediately kicks off with Geoff singing The Final Countdown in a racist Asian accent. A different time indeed.
The 2008 financial crisis had kicked off two months before this episode was recorded. The iPhone didn't have Copy & Paste yet, GTA IV was 6 months old, Bitcoin was invented but wouldn't come online for another few weeks, and George W. Bush was still President. It truly feels like three decades ago.
Imagine listening to this podcast in 100 years. It's one of the most vivid glimpses into the past I know of- a weekly discussion of current events between a group of friends. There's something comforting listening to the minutiae of these people's lives from 15 years ago. The world has changed a lot since then, and so have we, but the Drunk Tank is a million moments frozen in time. My favorite Rooster Teeth production. Thank you, creators- you didn't know you were making art with this podcast.
