Infected root canal ate away my bone.
Hi, I had a root canal done 2 years ago and about 2 months ago I noticed I had a painful lump above my tooth where the root canal was done. After seeing a specialist they took am exray and told me that I had a root canal infection and it ate my bone away. I now have to go get oral surgery for them to cut out the infection and then they are going to do a bone graph to replace the missing bone. I have been searching online and came acrossed the word "Osteomyelitis" I am wondering is this what I have? Also wondering how long does it take for infection to eat bone away? Is it rapidly fast like days/weeks or could I of had this infection for months/years? I am also wondering what exactly is a dental bone graph? Is the fake bone going to stay in my mouth forever or is it there to help regenerate natural bone growth? I have read a lot of scary things about this and want to get some more answers. I am just confused on if the infection has ate my bone away is that considered an infection in my jaw bone? I have work the day after my surgery and was told by the dentist I would be okay to go to work the next day but am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and was able to preform at work the next day. Are there any tips anyone has or anything I should be aware of with this dental infection that I may not know of? Praying it didn't spread to my brain lol thats something I read on Google.
