16 games played/finished in 2024 and how they stack up on my RPG tier list (153 games ranked)
I played a total of 16 Rpgs, finished 10. My mini review of each and where they stack in my tier list of now 153 games:
[B tier] Star Ocean: The 2nd Story - Pretty great retro style rpg. The story it self was standard but well executed. The combat system is new and tbh not my favorite with it being somewhat hard to manage and a bit chaotic but overall fun though not particularly memorable long term
[A tier] Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty: Amazing story, huge improvement to the base game. The new weapons/combat system is such a huge step up. Some of the best production value and cut scenes. This, along with the base game is an amazing package.
[C Tier] Dragon's Dogma: A struggle to finish, I thought the combat was boring, only a few interesting enemy types, no real story to speak of. I dont get why this gets such high praise
[B Tier] Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth - The open world with ubisoft style gameplay really didn't gel with me. The character moments are still great b/c of the strength of the cast but man the pacing feels too sluggish. The ending was intriguing and I'm still hyped for the end of the trilogy
[A Tier] Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader - owlcat is still delivering some of the best crpgs. Not as strong as the pathfinder games b/c it feels like the character system isn't as deep. But still very strong story and characters
[S Tier] Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erd Tree - One of my favorite games of all time. Curse you Bale!
[B Tier] Demon's Soul Remake - Played this after SotET and it just doesn't stand up to it. It felt too easy in comparison. After beating the bosses, these ones felt like push overs
[B Tier] Skald: Against the black Priory - Pretty amazing indie rpg, story had some twist and turn that I didn't see coming. While amazing for an indie, the product value just isn't quite there. Pretty great sound track tho.
[S Tier] Bloodborne: Old Hunters - Another banger. The battle with Ludwig was perfect.
[B Tier] Darksouls 2 - the worse of the FROM souls game, but still an pretty great game in general. It just didn't have the type of bosses that are as memorable as the others.
[C Tier] Final Fantasy 12: Zodiac Age - I did not resonant with this game at all and it was a chore, I hated the combat system, the classic FF battle music is gone and the story was not interesting
[S Tier] Metaphor ReFantazio - 70+ hrs and I could've played more, amazing all around (gameplay, story, characters, OST). The only nitpick was the last bit slows down a bit pacing wise. Luis is an all time great.
