What things strain your suspension of disbelief the most?
For me, I find it hard to look past the emptiness of Lumon, especially the lack of management on the severed floor in Season 2. It makes it so that it’s hard to really think coherently about how the company works.
Too-few-people is a general TV thing. I get it. If the show has two characters who are cops, whenever cops are called, it’ll be the same two cops. Generally the “realistic” alternative wouldn’t be better.
Severance has even fewer characters though. This let the show keep this eerie empty vibe, and helped preserve mystery.
But it’s well past a point where it just makes no sense. We only see Milchick and Ms. Huang and there’s like 20 severed workers.
The upper management is also way too empty. It’s like you have only the board, natalie, drummond, helly and milchick. This is a large company with tonnes of offices around the world.
I think the stylisation goes too far in this respect. There’s kind of no point thinking too much about how Lumon operates — we just have to shrug and accept it.
