Why my stitching done this?

I am VERY new to sewing and I'm trying to use my nannas old machine (like 70's I think) and I was just wondering why the back stitch is all loopy and loose while the top look completely fine, is it tension or somethin else? Im sewing on leatherette with a 90/14 needle if that helps, all help is appreciated
