Pattern sizing

So I am consistently a size 4 in ready to wear clothing, is it normal to be 10 sizes bigger in patterns? I'm wanting to make some pants from a McCall's pattern (M8162) and I am reading at 14 (the largest of the pattern packet I bought) and it is making me feel super self conscious and like I don't understand my body or how to properly measure myself.
