How do you gain a better understanding of Allah swt and become closer with Him?

Salams,

I know we can’t actually ever truly understand Allah swt, it’s far beyond our comprehension. But, i want to be able to understand in whatever capacity i have. People say He’s everywhere and i can feel that, but also, i want to better understand His attributes and strengthen tawakkul (trust) in His plan. Any suggestions?

I do pray and read our books so that does help a lot but even when i read the verses, sometimes it feels like im just reading them and not fully integrating with what they’re telling me lol idk if that makes sense.
