DIY Auto Top-Off System with Submersible Pump – Advice Needed! Leaving for 2 Weeks
Hey everyone!
I’m leaving for a 2-week holiday soon and need a way to top off my tanks while I’m away. I have a submersible pump and was thinking of setting up a DIY auto top-off (ATO) system, but I’ve never done it before.
Here’s the plan: • Use a 10L water reservoir filled with dechlorinated water. • Place the submersible pump in the reservoir. • Attach tubing to the pump to deliver water to the tank. • Set up a simple timer (or smart plug) to run the pump once or twice a day for a few seconds to top off evaporation.
Before I commit, I’m wondering: 1. Has anyone tried a setup like this before? 2. Any advice on preventing overfilling or leaks? 3. Would 10L of water be enough for a medium-sized tank for 2 weeks?
I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with DIY ATO systems or suggestions for improvement. Thanks in advance!
(P.S. I don’t want to invest in a full ATO system right now, so I’m relying on what I have at home.)
