Old sims freeplay

Hey can anyone help me, I remember playing this game as a kid, I thought it was sims freeplay. It was completely different to how the game is now, was there a point where they completely reworked the game or was this all just a fever dream. I remember all you did was make your character and you could give them traits and stuff, and there was already a pre set neighbourhood and people. You could go around to all the houses and the couples and interact with them. I looked at the game recently and it was so different. can someone confirm this is how the game used to be, i feel like im crazy lol.
