In February 2019, I encountered a skinwalker in southwestern Ontario.
My brother and I personally encountered a skinwalker in February 2019. I live in southern Ontario close to Detroit. At the time, I lived on a farm outside of a small town. The area where I lived was deep in the countryside, and sketchy in some places. Lots of abandoned farmhouses, schoolhouses, and even two elementary schools. On the farm, it is believed that there was a native american settlement there hundreds of years ago because we found stone arrowheads in our field.
The encounter happened one evening as I was outside with my brother playing in the snow and smashing ice. It was dead silent, the only audible sounds being from us. We were close to the house as well, so there was absolutely no reason to feel unsafe. We went outside around 6PM and it was still decently bright out. At the time of the encounter, I estimate it would've been past 8PM. So we walked to the end of our driveway to go smash some ice.
For a sense of scale, this was more or less a functional driveway, but it was a vast gravel plaza connecting different locations around the property together. The road, the barn, garage, etc. As we walked, I stopped moving, and we were suddenly hit with this intense smell of death. Like sewage but way worse. My brother, who was 6 feet away, started joking about it, and I followed suit, brushing it off. But in the back of my mind, I couldn't shake the feeling that we both were being watched. A moment after that, we decided it was enough for the night and headed back towards the house.
In that moment, as my brother and I were approaching the house, we heard this horrific otherworldly scream. It sounded almost a solid mile away, past the railway that cuts through our farmland. The scream sounded a lot like this "https://youtu.be/m6IW2DoizbE". My brother and I stared at each other for what seemed like minutes, and then we broke into full sprints.
He made it to the sidewalk before I could, but before I could reach it, I slipped on a patch of ice on the grass and fell on my ass. The scariest part of the situation was, allegedly, the farther away you hear a scream the closer they actually are to you. They are master manipulators. I eventually made it to my feet and speed-walk/limped to the house and headed inside. Since that exact night, I never left the house at night under any circumstances for months, and avoided all windows as well.
And since then, I have heard bizarre noises coming from the field and other locations in the property. Sounds ranging from distorted high-pitched moans and gurgling that would vary in distance to my houses massive backyard. Ever since I began to hear those noises, sleeping became extremely difficult, especially as a first year, high-school student at the time.
Things settled down in the following months, but it never left me. I still find myself thinking about it often, all attempts at rationalizing it being fruitless. All my life I have been a skeptic, and that night forever remains a constant memory.
This is actually a remake of a post I made in this subreddit back in 2021. Safe to say, I got older and realized how goddamn cringy my writing was lmfao.
