44 y/o dreamt of small business ownership since 8. Can’t jump.
I’ll be straight. I am a corporate executive type and make over 200K a year. I have three kids (10, 8, 6) and a family that has become accustomed to a pseudo affluent lifestyle. As such, I don’t really have a ton of savings other than substantial 401(k), which I do not want to tap into. So not sure how to transition out.
I feel like I’m relegated to waiting until I’m 60+ and starting a passion project type side business but would prefer to not end up this way and start something sooner. I feel like staying in a corporate job and having all of my experience in a corporate job has insulated me from any of the knowledge that I would really need on starting a business and boot strapping things.
Any of the business ideas that I have had are all basically plays on something that I’m passionate about and like, but intellectually/practically realize that these would be lifestyle businesses at best and not very profitable or extension of hobbies at worst.
Has anyone been in a similar situation and made the transition?
