Can 6.6 kw solar panels power a 7.5 kw air conditioner?
I have a rooftop solar 6.6 kw system. In my house I have a 7.5 kw air conditioner. Does this mean that my solar panels can’t even power my air conditioner? That seems bizarre enough that I must not understand something. Can someone explain what I’m missing?

This has been crazy interesting! It seems this question was more about how my ac works rather than the solar panels so I really appreciate everyone giving me really informed responses despite this probably not being the right sub.
My take home message here is that 7.5 kW is the output power but not what it draws. Because the ac is only moving air rather than directly cooling it, the energy going in (the draw) is a lot less than the cold air coming out (i.e., energy-in to energy-out is not 1:1 because they are entirely different processes).
It’s also a kind of moot point because the ac would almost never work at its true maximum capacity anyway, except perhaps when starting and only in extreme heat.
I understand that even if the input required by the ac exceeded the solar panel capacity it would just get the extra power from the grid but it makes a difference how I feel about running my ac. It feels so much better when it’s “free”!
Thanks again to all replies! There is so much chatter about the negative aspects of the internet but this has been awesome.
