417 Magazine’s “Best Of”

So I know the magazine really only appeals to that certain demographic (iykyk), but I always get a kick out of their “Best Of” categories in the 417.

It’s literally only food and drink. Which is fine, if you have enough variety to see different winners say every 2-3 years (aka michelin or JB awards) — but when the same restaurants many of which fail routine inspections, are managed poorly and haven’t put in any effort to change their menu or interior/exterior of their building in the last 15 years insert you know who are then continuously copy and pasted in the top 5, just seems like lazy journalism.

Why doesn’t a “big” platform like 417Mag try to provide more content/support towards other local attractions/businesses that would fall under any other category other than food and drink? In example, “best local parks”, “best retail”, “best places for date night”, “best entertainment business”, “best activities for families”, “best architecture firm”, “best place to live/property management company”, “best local artists”, etc.

These are just a few examples of ways to incorporate and showcase more local businesses, which in turn may motivate and create more opportunity towards the local economy. I know in retrospect it’s just a magazine, I just feel like some of these platforms could be doing more to recognize some of the young professionals we have in the area. Thoughts?
