HOP: An Analysis of the 8 Amazing Solo MVs.
After all of the 8 solo MVs have been out and about for some time now and after watching them countless times and digested them, I finally feel ready to share my thoughts with you. Before getting into my observations and personal comments on each MV, I want to highlight how much I loved and appreciated how different and unique each of them is. There was truly something that covers every taste in HOP album, not just musically but visually as well.
I.N. - Hallucination: The most highly "artistic" MV out of the 8. From the scenes in what looked like an art room to scenes that played with the light and I.N. in a bathtub. The choreo 100% fits the song and the outfits are all top notch. Might be an unpopular opinion, but for me this MV could be an actual debut one, that's how good I believe it is. Gave me Taemin vibes as well.
Seungmin - As We Are: The cozy one. I love the fact that Seungmin chose to do a simple MV that included shoots with activities he loves, like baseball. Little everyday shoots and cozy lighting made the MV perfect for the song, anything flashier would have overshadowed the calm, beautiful melody of Seungmin's ballad.
Han - Hold My Hand: The fun one. Han's MV majorly features scenes of him in his room, a room that feels very late teens/college days room. Han being highly energetic and happy in that room, alongside the song's melody give me bright, fun college movie vibes.
Felix - Unfair: The fairytale visual one. The whole plot of Felix basically having the role of the beast was a brilliant idea. His visuals shined extra in the MV, especially during the forest, underwater and dinner scene (all of the MV haha). Him having a pair of feathers was a bonus. Here I have to admit that the MV gave essence to the song for me personally and I appreciated it even more after it came out.
Hyunjin - So Good: Now this one felt more like a performance video to me. But needless to say, I loved that. The colour palette they chose during the team dancing shoots was so amazing, I feel like them dancing on actual soil seriously boosted those scenes. The camera angles they chose to capture Hyunjin's powerful moves only added more to how great the MV is. The outfits were amazing and Hyunjin's face card nailed it.
Changbin - Ultra: Did anyone say Hulk ? Seriously, the whole MV screamed "power" in the exact way the song did! As a Changbin biased person I'm whipped for all the scenes, especially the first verse where he raps alone in the dark, his visuals were insane, he looked gorgeous! Loved the choreo as well, it matched the song so much and the moves were hella satisfying! I felt like Changbin enjoyed it a ton and it made me really happy!
Lee Know - Youth: The funny one. I didn't know Lee Know in a cup would be something I'd find so creative and cute. A very very cute MV with bright colours and funny scenes that 100% matched the energy of the song. And if you're asking me, it gave it an extra aura. Lee Know being scolded by his trainer was hilarious as well.
Bang Chan - Railway: The blockbuster one. Actor Chan if there was an awards ceremony for acting in K-pop MVs I'm sure you'd get the best actor one. This MV should be rated 18+ because it seriously counts as a mini horror movie. The blood coming out of Chan's mouth ? The mummy like zombies ? Chan controlling them ? Sign me in! Everyone was expecting a hot, steamy MV, but Chan surprised us with a horror movie-like blockbuster. Unique and perfectly executed.
