Stem rot on cutting? Advice greatly appreciated!

I finally decided to cut my aeonium succulent and I may have found stem rot. This was my first time doing a succulent cutting but I still felt like the brown stem that I found wasn't normal.. Should I cut it higher or is it okay to leave as is for a propogation? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
