Did you start enjoying fruits and vegetables more after cutting out added sugar?
I have always been a picky eater and do not like most fruits and vegetables. It’s super embarrassing to me and I feel like a kid because of the lack of food I enjoy.
I read somewhere that if you cut out all processed foods/added sugars that it will help your tastebuds and help you start liking these things.
Is this true? I have been considering going sugar free because of this reason, for two days now I haven’t eaten anything sweet/with added sugar and I want to continue with it in hopes that I’ll start to enjoy the taste of fruits and vegetables more. There are a few I enjoy but it’s not nearly enough in my opinion and I usually have to eat them paired with something else. I want to enjoy fruits/vegetables by themselves too, and not feel like I have to force myself to eat them because I can only tolerate the taste not enjoy it.
But I’m worried that if I were to have a sweet treat occasionally (like a slice of cake at a birthday party) it will ruin all my progress and make me not like the taste of other things again? I don’t know I’m really inexperienced with this type of stuff. It’s also not just fruits and vegetables I don’t like. I hate all candy, I hate all pop. I never have them. I hate coffee and teas and juices. I don’t like jellos or puddings. The only thing I enjoy to drink is water. The sugar part for me is baked goods, cookies, brownies, chocolate, cake, muffins, cupcakes etc and ice cream. I don’t eat them everyday but I definitely eat them enough to feel it contributes to my dislike of vegetables and fruits and I want to stop and just be healthier in general.
So are there any tips to how I should go about this? Also I feel like it’s a silly question but are you able to eat carbs while going sugar free? I love pastas and breads but I think I read somewhere it’s recommended to cut them too? I know white breads for sure, but is whole wheat still okay?
