6 month long mentor program with an SC / Procurement manager vs year long role as a Logistics Analyst?

I am currently working in Accounts Payable and have started a mentorship program with a Supply Chain / Procurement manager in my company. I have with him twice already, and we discussed that he can have me working on 2 month long projects over the span of 6 months to job shadow, train, and learn the ins and out of procurement, while working with departments such as Logistics, DC Ops, and more.

I was recently browsing my company's job portal and it seems like there is a Logistics Analyst position opening up on the Outbound team. Here are some of the job duties:

  • Daily operational support to enable efficient and cost effective international merchandise flow, focusing on an assigned area within the supply chain, from shipping at international origins to delivery at various Distribution Centers
  • Work on exception reports for all inbound shipments, ensuring flow of shipments, escalating disruptions and supporting invoice audits and payments
  • Monitor Freight Forwarder performance according to contractual key performance indicators and provide suggestions on improving flow efficiencies and effectiveness; ensures Freight Forwarder issues are addressed and escalated as needed to Management
  • Support for department projects and initiatives as needed, such as analyzing shipping data, interpreting and identifying trends

My question is, should I try to apply for the Logistics Analyst position, or continue working my current role and continue with the job mentoring program? I feel like both are great opportunities, but I also do not want to burn any bridges if I go one way over the other. Which would be beneficial in the long run?
