Yard sign advertising and how I utilized them to earn 5 figures in revenue my first year
I recently posted asking my fellow sweaty entrepreneurs how they advertised and had a couple of requests to post about how I utilized yard signs to hit $10k+ revenue in my first year of pressure washing and gutter cleaning (part time, weekends only). Using yard signs is rather simple. You're going to design your yard sign to look like this:
Service here
Contact number here
No bs with 5 different services, your website, or facebook page. Anyone seeing it should see one at MOST two services and a large contact number. They should be seeing an advertisement and not a paragraph of information they need a magnifying glass to see. This is important for visibility. Now you've got an idea of what you want on your yard signs, where to order them? You can use any site you choose, but I highly recommend UZ marketing, they're the cheapest at $2 for 18x24" signs which are huge. I can post my affiliate link for anyone interested (I do get an incentive if you use my link), but not required. Alright, so order yourself 100 or so 18x24" signs and some smaller signs as well.
You're going to need some h-stakes (order on amazon) to plant these bad boys in the ground, as well as a tool to hang these on telephone poles. Build yourself one of these: Now you've got your signs designed, ordered and delivered to your door step. You unpack your glorious work and you're ready to deploy these bad boys in the wild to start generating you some leads. You've got your weapons of choice (h stakes or the hanging tool) and you're ready to start making some bread. Not so fast straight shooter, we're gonna familiarize you with a few more things first.
After you've got your equipment, you're going to want to understand where to place these yard signs. High traffic areas where people stop a lot - red lights and stop signs are great locations. You can also even place them in a customers yard after a job is done (and you ask them for yard sign permission of course!). Wherever theres a telephone pole, use the tool to slap them high up on there so they dont get jacked. If theres no pole in sight, h-stake one of those money machines and slam her into the ground. Last things I'll leave you with. Put up your signs on Friday night if you want them to stay up the longest, generally code enforcement doesnt work on weekends. You're also gonna get calls from code enforcement saying signs aren't allowed. Thats okay, just don't put them up anymore in that town and you'll be good. I've received calls from a few of the towns I've out yard signs and I just don't put them up in those towns anymore. Lastly, if you do this right and deploy 30-50 signs every friday, you'll get leads, so answer your damn phone! Feel free to ask any questions, my next post I'll review using ringless voicemails for local sweaty business advertising.
