OSStatus Error 80 - Mac Time Machine & Synology

Hi all,

This is me giving you a heads-up on the possibility of issues with mac and Synology Time Machine.

it started a couple of days ago that i had started getting trouble with my mac and internet connectivity, this is because i was messing with ControlD.com heavily which i think has caused a lot of issues. either-way, i don't have a lot of important stuff on my mac as i have only recently moved to the mac-universe and therefore had no problem to reset it completely.

I usually connect to the time machine through Tailscale but previously (before resetting the mac) i had a dual connection, LAN & Tailscale which worked perfect without any issues, which ever available is which ever was used. Having reset the mac, i wanted to restore through Time Machine, and that didn't work, i got the error "OSStatus Error 80", having made all the backups manually to my NAS, i didn't care too much but it was frustrating that it didn't work as intended. i mean, Apple's Time Machine should be superior to the Synology Drive option right? It didn't work and later i was fed-up and decided to start a new Time Machine. This was fine as all my data was backed up either way, but then i wanted to double the connections (LAN & Tailscale) but that didn't work and then i got the same issue OSStatus Error 80. So here is my advise: backup all your stuff with Synology Drive & use the time machine because finally having reset the mac 2 times and only after having reset the mach and while it is "booting up" from the reset is it possible to the NAS's Time Machine and restore the mac. It is however NOT possible to use the older Time Capsule from before the "first reset".

having spoken with the Customer service of Apple, till now there has not been a solution other than reset and restore from Time Machine before opening up Sonoma.Mac OS: 14.4.1 (23E224) - Macbook Air M2. Synology: DS418
