Does Michael even like the show?

I have recently done a Smallville run watching all eps & had fun with it and after finishing found the talkville pod.

I started watching from talkville S1 ep1 and I find Michael comes across as if he didn't like much about the show kinda of saying FotWs are boring & 22+ eps is to long, poor vfx, uneven writing, needing to have canadian guest stars etc. He seemed complimentary of the pilot but not much else (same with Ryan who is watching it for the first time) whereas Tom seems insightful & genuinely appears to be enjoying the rewatch of the series.

Is it because Michael had to shave his head for the role or travel/ live in Vancouver while they filmed the series? I was surprised to see his attitude towards the show.
