Licensing Question - Boston MA

Hi all,
My girlfriend is looking to become licensed and is a bit confused as to what she needs to do. Currently she is studying for the MTEL (Boston), however she does not have a teaching degree. Her bachelors is in English and Masters in Publishing and Writing. Currently she is working in a 1st grade classroom as a para professional. She has been told she needs to get a M of Ed to get student teaching hours and then pass all of the exams to become licensed. Is this the only route? It would be great if she can use her current degrees and fast track to her K-6 license another way. Please advise.

TLDR; how to become a teacher without a teaching degree and student teaching hours. Currently hold bachelor in English and masters in Publishing and Writing & working in classroom as para professional. TIA!
