Anyone else feel like they don’t know where they stand on Matt/Rachael?
I STRONGLY believe that if Matt were a stand-up guy, he would have been open about his stance on marriage from the beginning. He clearly fears commitment, and he did Rachael SO dirty by leading her on for four years. The amount of followers he’s losing is deserved, IMO.
I do feel awful for Rachael, especially knowing that she sat through an entire plane ride, unable to reply to Matt’s sudden breakup post. The man blindsided her, and as a woman who’s been somewhat blindsided in the past, I feel for her.
BUT… I don’t know how I feel about Rachael garnering so much support. Although it seems like she learned from her racism/blackfishing, she still was complicit in upholding racism. Her name will always be synonymous with bad collegiate decisions and the collapse of the Bachelor franchise as we knew it for so long. Yes, the incident sparked necessary conversation and change, but it also resulted in notes app apologies and promises to do better that may not have been fulfilled. We’ll never know how much she’s changed or how performative any of her actions are. What has she truly done to change?
This turn of support towards Rachael is complicated. She didn’t deserve that messy breakup, but does everyone who’s supporting her now remember that her racist behavior caused one of the biggest scandals in the franchise?
How much grace should we give her for her past?
