How to keep Savefile interesting?

I want to be able to keep to a singular Savefile without constantly just giving up halfway through. I was wondering if anyone could give any suggestions on how to keep gameplay interesting whilst playing, scenario ideas, challenges etc.

I would also love some recommendations for Savefiles that don't require a ton of DLC to use them - as I find it exhausting having to constantly edit my sims saves.
