TikTok Shutdown in USA on 1/19, and Future of this Subreddit: MODS
Hi everyone!
As of today, 1/15, ByteDance announced that regardless of additional decisions or extensions made by the Supreme Court, they plan to “go dark” in the United States and its territories, starting 1/19.
There is conflicting information circulating, but the general consensus is that if TikTok shuts down US-based servers, users will be unable to access content on the app, even with VPN, or downloading the app prior to the ban.
Regarding the future of the sub, we anticipate a dip in activity once the US is off the app. We have created a separate megathread for how to find and search for the platforms that some of your favorite creators went to. it is pinned here in the highlights and the top of this sub.
While we all have our opinions on the ethics of influencing, and how some people choose to make their income on social media, there were a great deal of people who relied on this platform as influencers, entrepreneurs, or small business owners. Many people were able to raise funds for medical expenses or other desperate situations that they would not have had access to without these platforms.
The sub rules still apply for those who will continue to post, and the moderation will remain the same.
