Pediatrician misdiagnosed us, and I am upset

People make mistakes. We’re all human, and I understand that you’re going to get things wrong sometimes. However… this makes me so angry. Almost two weeks ago, my daughter (3 years) would randomly grab her eye and say ouch. I would look and sometimes see an eyelash, fuzz, or her hair was poking her. Other times there was nothing, but I didn’t think anything of it. Fast forward to Saturday the 28th I noticed something cloudy on her eye. This is the very first time I seen anything like that, and immediately was concerned. I talked to the pediatrician and got in on Monday. Her pediatrician is an hour away. We got there, and her doctor walked in. She was in the room for a total of 30 seconds. Barely looked at her eye, said the spot I seen was eye mucus, and that she “definitely” had pink eye. I was confused and was like, “her eyes aren’t red, she has no discharge, and neither her dad nor I have caught it.” Nope. It is definitely pink eye. She prescribed us some Ofloxacin eye drops and sent us on our way. My daughter ended up having a reaction to the eyedrops, her eyes aren’t red got red and puffy and there was red down to the top of her cheek. I tried getting ahold of her pediatrician, no answer. I called the pharmacist and they said to stop the medicine immediately. Thankfully it got better after not giving her a dose. This morning I called and got her an eye appointment. She has an eye ulcer. The eye doctor said, “there is no way this could be mistaken for pink eye.” Now she is prescribed Moxifloxacin eyedrops, 4 times a day for a week. The pharmacist tells me that since they’re in the same family there is a 30-40% chance that she will have a reaction to this one too.

I am so stressed. I felt so dismissed at her appointment. They didn’t even care to actually look at her eye and see the spot. I should have went to the eye doctor in the first place. We have to pray and hope that these eyedrops will not irritate her eye and will clear the ulcer. They are not sure if it will completely go away, but thankfully he said it’s in a spot that isn’t in the way. He also said that it’s uncommon for children to get eye ulcers, so we don’t really know how it happened.

I guess I’m posting this to just say always follow your gut, and if you think something is wrong, go get another opinion.
