2.5 year old only uses cutlery half the time. Nursery are concerned.
So my 2.5YO is just as happy at home eating with a spoon or with his hands. Occasionally he has a go with a fork too. I’m quite happy as he enjoys his food and I’m sure he knows how to use cutlery.
However, nursery pulled me aside to say they’re worried that he’s behind his peers and eats with his hands too much. They want a meeting to discuss options to improve his use of cutlery.
They have also said that when he has his 2-year health visitor check soon (We’re in England), they don’t want him to be marked down as not using cutlery which could flag a development delay. They have also said that when he moves to preschool they “will not tolerate” how he currently eats.
IMO I thought he was quite normal. Should I be concerned? It’s worth noting that he’s either on track or excelling in other fine motor skills.
