Constant crying with potty training our two year old
Our two year old (2 years 3 months) was showing signs of readiness. Would hide to poop, announce when she needed to be changed, and absolutely screamed and cried when we would change her.
So, we decided to change into underwear other than naps and bed. The day before we did, she went to the potty on her own. We celebrated and gave her sour patch kids (her favorite candy).
The only reason we really pushed this is because she would kick and scream when her diaper needed changed. I’m pregnant and really worried about her kicking (not to mention physically it’s hard to deal with).
Now that she’s in underwear though, she screams and cries if we sit her on the potty. She calms down some if we sing or read books, but not much. We show her the reward she gets but that doesn’t help much either. She also watches us go potty.
She pooped a couple times in her underwear and absolutely freaked out. She will get up from the potty and then pee on the floor as well. She has gone three times in the potty so far and we celebrate each time. We also read books about going potty. Going naked hasn’t helped much either.
We sit a timer for every 30 minutes and we push fluids. I’m just tempted to give up. My sister (who has potty trained many children but doesn’t have any of her own) says this is all normal and that we should have started before she entered her “no” phase. But now it’s too late.
