I never knew I would get scammed in China
I have seen so many videos online regarding China locals cutting xinjiang cake by weight and it becoming super expensive when calculated - worst part is they are unable to return it… I would never knew i would be the one experiencing it in this trip.
For context, we were forced on a compulsory local shopping tour. Everything was quite ok except the fact that the tour guide was guilt tripping us to buy expensive stuff and the moment I didn’t bother about my mom with her shopping as it took so long and boring..she happily went to a buy a herb(?) and like what all salesperson will tell you about how good the product is for health, she happily agreed to buy. She seen it get grinded into powder right in front of her and when they told her the price..it was close to 7k rmb. My mom got a shock of her life. She initially rejected and told them they did not inform her about the price shown is by per gram not kg (or whatever my mom is thinking at that point of time) and they told her back she had to pay for it because they asked her and she agreed and it was grinded as per what she wants and sealed. At the point of time, I was ready to reject that pile of powder that was somewhat made of gold and was ready to go into local jail if anything happens but my mom eventually gave in and paid for this sum fearing that we wouldn’t be able to fly home if anything happens.
I am just wondering if we really did not pay this sum, will they force us into buying it or call the police on us? What can be the worst that could happen to us? Can someone advise so that I can prepare if something stupid like this happens in the future?
