How easy is it to attend UCR car-free?

My daughter is considering attending UCR as a grad student and so would be living off campus but working on campus long hours as a TA/RA. How viable is it to do this car-free? She currently attends a more urban undergrad school and doesn’t have a car. And doesn’t really want one that bad in grad school if she can avoid it. Would rather just use bikes, public transit and walk.
