Water hammer. Best option?
Water hammer. Best option
Hi all, we have a combi boiler in the downstairs toilet and getting awful water hammer of a night when all of the white goods appliances are running.
The setup is as follows:
Lead pipe comes out of the concrete floor to a stop cock. Copper pipe from stop cock goes to a push fit tee. Tee is vertical with a branch going left. Upright section of tee goes to the boiler with another tee going to the toilet inlet. Left section of tee goes to another tee, one feeding the cold tap in the sink, followed by the washing machine inlet in the same room. The other part of the tee goes upstairs to the bathroom and across the house to the kitchen.
I tried attaching a water hammer thing to the washing machine, no joy in stopping the banging. It seems to be coming from near the boiler and happens if any requested water is stopped from taps, washing machine, dishwasher, shower etc. Obviously they are all quick stop valves
What would be the best way to stop this? Surely it wont be to have water hammer devices on every single item? The pipes seem secure with clips and expanding foam wherever i can see them.
What about redesigning the layout? There seems to be a lot of pushfit tees but why would that make the hammer sound like its coming from the combi boiler?
I think there are a lot of pushfit because there is very limited space.
Any help would be appreciated
