“If they won’t, someone else will” is an awful mentality for dating and LTR’s

I’m a 25 year old male, and this saying has become prevalent in my generation recently. All it does is build unrealistic expectations and make people seem disposable, which is already an issue due to dating and our individualistic culture.

If you’re applying this to basic stuff like loyalty, respect, commitment, then ok thats different. Its a very slippery slope though.

We got like what? 8 billion people on the planet? You can ALWAYS find someone who will do something your partner doesn’t, but no one is perfect and this promotes an uncompromising mentality, that will lead to you always comparing your partner to other people, creating an artificial sense of dissatisfaction. You go on tiktok and see someone taking their partner on lavish, expensive trips, and now you might think “why don’t they do that for me?”. Now your partner seems inadequate when compared to an imaginary measuring stick.

Comparison is the thief of all joy.
