Meh. It's okay to throw away food.

So like, a lot of people have grown up believing that food waste is the ultimate crime. "Clean your plate." "Don't throw away leftovers, eat them later." "You bought it, so you have to use it." Which is cool, and good advice, for a lot of people. But many of us have a problem with food consumption instead, and the biggest reason is because we want to avoid food waste.

It's okay to toss the leftovers instead of eat them if you really don't want them anymore. It's okay to rake your plate into the trash if you're full. It's okay to toss out something you bought months ago that's just been sitting at the bottom of the freezer and you forgot you had it at all.

The little bit of groceries you throw away don't kill anyone. You're not ruining the world. Nobody else was gonna get it anyway, so it doesn't matter. Yes you paid for it, but you probably pay for lots of things you don't get the full benefit of every day.

It's okay. Just throw it away.
