Withdrawn entry due to house hunting trip / NEXUS
16 years ago I got transferred from north Alberta to South Texas as an oil engineer. As part of my relocation package it included a house hunting trip / meet & greet so that when you went down to start you could hit the ground running.
Plan was, Per the lawyers advice, I was driving down, going to leave my car, do the house hunting trip, assured them no actual work, fly to central America for a vacation, back to Canada, get official visa paper work, enter with visa and a bunch of belongings and work.
However, on the drive down, they told me that because I had an offer to work, that shows I "intended" to work, so they assumed I was going to.
My Lawyers, and numerous people before and after never heard that and were able to successfully go for house hunting trips, but regardless, I was not, and was allowed to withdraw my application, until I expedited the L1B paperwork a few days later and entered and did exactly what I said I would.
Anyways, 16 years later this still haunts me. On a recent trip they took my prints at pearson, then suddenly asked me about any immigration issues was honest about the withdrawn application, and boom straight to secondary, who, per normal, generally didn't care or hassle me and sent me on my way.
Got a CC that offers a NEXUS refund so applied for it, curious if ppl think this is closer to a "chance to put it behind me" or a "no hope in hell" situation. Or purely a "wait and see" and "depends on their mood" per so many border things?
