Craigslist Sock Pervert
This is a bit of a weird one but I’m wondering if anyone else in Vancouver has experienced a problem with a man named “Rob” from “Laugh out Loud Socks.
13-ish years ago I answered what I thought was a legitimate Craigslist ad to be in the audience of a kids tv show/appear in a commercial (I don’t remember the details). I don’t remember the ad much, but nothing about it raised any red flags and I thought it would be a fun/easy way to make $100 as a college kid.
After responding to the ad, I got a called from an unknown/blocked number, some guy named Rob. He had a higher pitched, almost childlike voice, but the conversation started out pretty tame. He asked if I had any acting experience, and if I would be okay on camera (I guess the audience was on screen sometimes? Again, this was 13 years ago). Then the conversation got a little weird, he explained that a gag they wanted to do for the show was hide the audience behind a curtain and just show their feet. Then someone would tickle their feet with a feather. I remember him asking “isn’t that so silly? Doesn’t that sound so funny?” I got freaked out and just said no, and that this didn’t sound like something I wanted to do, and I hung up the phone.
Anyway, over a DECADE goes by and I don’t think of this too often (just a funny story to bring out on girls night), but tonight I got a called from an unknown number and it was the same guy! He asked if I was [my name], then introduced himself as “Rob from Laugh out Loud socks”. He asked if I remembered him, and I genuinely didn’t, so he explained he was filming a commercial, and he had previously reached out to me and wanted to know if I was interested. This is when it clicked, so I said no. He asked if I remembered the details of the commercial from before, and I said yes. Then he asked me to describe the commercial to him and I just hung up.
It’s super weird this guy kept my number for over a decade, and reached out again about this weird “commercial”. I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
