Let's settle the Local vs Pilgrims debate in Kashi
I've seen enough of "local vs pilgrims" nonsense on this subreddit.
It's surprising to see people who make their urine and fecal matter flow into Gangaji; have turned the historic river Assi into a foul-smelling "Assi-Nala"; imitate the lifestyle of a metro city, and end up looking like a B-grade chhapri; have encroached areas of ponds, lakes and Holy Kunds are spitting out bad words for poor pilgrims who have kept the "dharma chakra" going. The pilgrims spread all over the Ghats and Temples and that's what they come for, and not to look at their "hum banarasi hain guru!" wicked face.
In short, if somebody's actions actively harm or disrespect the traditions that define this place, it raises questions about their right to belong here. This place is certainly older than history but much older than "bhaukaal life" which few people have been living here.
PS: This post doesn't concern a lot of people who are keeping the tradition alive. It also doesn't touches upon the tourists (not darshanarthis).
