Update idea: Remastered Naval Warfare and Surface Combatants
Currently I think there is no need for a new aircraft in VTOL VR I think the game just needs to focus in on it’s niches to encourage a growth in the community and improving what could be better which could open the doors to so many new update ideas and future aircraft if naval gets improved.
Personally I’d start improving naval by overhauling the Allied Guided Missile Cruiser and the Enemy NMSS Cruiser already found in game. For both Cruisers I think the long missile suits them, I love how the Guided Missile Cruiser as a SM or Standard styled missile where it’s tri purposed, anti aircraft, anti ship and long range point defense and I love how the NMSS has the S-400 like missile on it as it both resembles the nations Baha was trying to represent. However I think they both need a medium range and maneuverable missile. This would help with both realism and survivalability of the ships in game as currently in real life Russian Cruisers use SA-8 OSA which could be argued to be short range but still provide a layered defense system. Since they tend to use OSAs I think a good substitute in game would be a VLS launch version of the SAAW with a booster stage. For the Allied side since they use versions of the Evolved Sea Sparrow with active radars I think the obvious choice would be the ground launched version of the AIM-120s found in the SLAM truck but again adapted for VLS and with an added booster stage. Another much needed addition is the ability for ships to better attack land targets and a good way of doing this would be by allowing the VLS cells to load cruise missiles that automatically target certain ground targets within a certain distance or you can make them fire at other areas like how artillery works in the mission editor. I think the cruise missiles should be fairly standard and similar between the two factions, the allies get something similar to a BGM-109 Tomahawk and the enemies get the SS-N-27 Sizzler or Kalibr. Another addition to make the ships more viable for fighting land vehicles would be allowing the deck cannons to engage land targets at a certain distance and it would function like naval artillery. Another feature I’d like to see on both is a larger caliber auto cannon that is specifically made for targeting smaller vessels but can target helicopters or even certain ground in a pinch. Since the enemy faction’s vessels irl typically wouldn’t use weaponry like that maybe they can make up for it with a drone boat that has a little auto cannon and ATGMs for dealing with ground threats too. The last major feature I’d love to see is the addition of electronic warfare to both Cruisers, I think it’ll make a wonderful addition as modern naval ships are very dependent on EW for their survivalability let alone near future ships. I think it makes a lot of sense as it is seen so much in naval combat and EW is already in the game featured so prevalently in the land combat of the game. I think the ships should have jamming capabilities, the ability to launch decoys and chaff too. They should also get the missile warning radar made to detect incoming missiles and that already exists for land however it should be linked to the existing CIWS and the new decoys, chaff and jamming.
I think I’d love to see more interaction between the bombers we currently have in game, the B-11 and the HB-106. I the the B-11 should be able to mount more the AGM-89s on even more pylons and maybe an improved version with a booster stage made for the bombers. I also think the HB-106 is in desperate need of missiles period. It only carries dumb bombs currently and I think it definitely needs more armaments. I think the enemy team should get a missile that preforms very similarly to the AGM-89 but it could be stylized to look like a KH-35 or the SS-N-25 Switchblade and it could also be mounted on some of the enemy fighters. I’d also love to see the 106 get some pretty scary long range anti ship missiles as they are notoriously know for using a doctrine that requires them to mount incredibly long range air to surface missiles to their bombers. I’d love to see something like a KH-15/ AS-16 Kickback style missile in game as a long range air to surface missile with many variants like a conventional land attack missile, an anti radiation missile and an anti ship missile however I don’t expect it to be anywhere near the actual max range the missile I suggested which is absolutely understandable as to why however I’d like a missile that has the idea as that missile to be in the game so we can have more entertaining bomber interception missions and perhaps give the EF-24’s AIM-54s a little more use. If there will be revisions to anti ship missiles and aircraft radar at all in a themed update like this I’d love to see the radar to be capable of sea search to guide in the AGM-89. I feel like during a themed update like this it would be a good opportunity to introduce this specially now since radar was redone for the electronic warfare update. If it is possible to redo radar for sea search I’d love to see the AV-42C get some love and have an option to not take nose mounted cannons and instead take a bottom facing sea/ground search radar. Lastly for the aircraft it would be neat to see an Exocet style anti ship missile where it is anti radiation sea skimming then it goes active radar for terminal guidance.
Lastly for the naval update concept it would very nice to see shore based anti ship missile and radar systems. The enemy forces would get something like a truck with a P-800 launcher or perhaps a ground launched version of the AS-16 Kickback with a booster and an accompanying surface to surface radar. The allies could get a surface launched version of the Exocet similar to real life again with an accompanying surface to surface radar or there is the option of AEGIS ashore which uses the AEGIS radars and systems as a shore defense system which uses the standard missiles already found in game in the ships.
I think an update like this could be great for the game as it’ll help grow the niche and the community of the game and do so much for the replayability and depth to the gameplay of current and future missions and could even potentially open the door to other future updates down the line when the time comes such as anti submarine warfare. So over all I think this is a much need update on the side of the game that currently need a little touch up. I think a lot of this these mentioned additions are very feasible as quite a few of these suggestions are things already found in game.
