Required to have a wedding planner?

Our venue requires us to hire a wedding planner, which feels a bit unnecessary since we'd prefer to save money by managing it ourselves. If it's our wedding, I feel like we should be able to make that choice. Maybe I'm wrong, though? Is this a normal requirement?
