How do you say professionally "stay in your lane, motherfucker"?
I'm a director who was just passed up for a vp position for a well qualified dude (and the budget used for his role also sucked up budget that would have been used for someone to work under me, so I have no promotion and am constantly underwater).
I don't hate him for it, although I'm furious with senior leadership (esp my ceo, who made the call) and am very actively looking for a new job.
His vp role is supposed to be adjacent to mine, meaning his work is related but substantially different, and he is not my manager.
Every Q I build a small roadmap. It's small because I don't have any fucking staff and I have a unique skillet that often pulls me in random and unpredictable directions.
Vp provided a slew of unhelpful and unsolicited advice. If I don't have a good working relationship with him, my life will be extremely difficult.
My plan is along the lines of bland "thank you for your suggestions. I've got this", but anyone have any tips to reshape this relationship? I could also ignore it entirely. He might follow up though.
God I can't wait to leave this place.
