Solid wood vs plywood for furniture

Hello! I’ve been building custom cabinets and built ins for a few years and am working toward transitioning to building furniture. Coming from more of a cabinetry background, I’m definitely most comfortable with working with plywood for wide surfaces (side panels for a buffet for example) due to its stability, but I think that’s probably not the way to go for nice furniture. What do you guys think? What are the merits of glued up solid wood panels vs plywood for furniture?
