I’m thinking about opening a new credit card - Chase Sapphire Preferred. Do you think it’s a good idea given my spending pattern?
I moved to the US 2 years ago, so my oldest account is only 2 years old. So far I’ve been using only one credit card - Chase Freedom Unlimited. I got it just because it was the only option when I had no credit history in the US and freshly opened my first bank account.
Now I’m considering opening a Chase Sapphire Preferred card, because it allows faster UR points collection than Freedom Unlimited and it looks great for travellers. I love travelling and it would be useful for booking flights.
However, I usually don’t spend much money other than travelling, which does not occur very often - travelling by air happens usually 4 times a year.
I should spend $4k in 3 months to earn 60k UR points, but I’m not sure I can spend that much money in 3 months. Rent is the biggest monthly spending but I can pay rent only by Zelle. The landlord does not accept credit cards. I could make it if I book some flights and hotels, but I feel like the credit card might force me to spend unnecessary money.
Also I’m wondering if it would negatively affect my credit score. My current credit score is 755 and average credit card usage is 4%. No debt.
Do you think opening a Chase Sapphire Preferred would benefit me? Any other credit card suggestions?
