I like the Gaynor Minden foam toe tape for bruised toenails. It has helped me deal with a chronically bruised toenail.

I find that taping my bruised toenail down really well so that it can't pull away from the toe is the difference from unbearable pain (I am a wimp) to no pain at all. And then putting a gel toe cover over that toe after it is taped helps prevent ongoing new bruising.

Have a quick flick through the original book and the pictures in it to get a better idea of her character and how you feel she would express herself. I always feel like character dances are almost like acting and doing a wee bit of method acting techniques always helped me a bit. I would walk around my house in character and practice facial expressions and mannerisms.

You’re probably better than you think you are at expressions simply because you were chosen for alice. But just remember that you have to make your expressions very exaggerated because the audience can sometimes be quite far from the stage and they should still be able to see your conveyed emotion.
