Question about cork

It's just the way the cork was. Soak them in water and they're both going to go back to being cylindrical. You do know that the champagne corks are not mushroom-shaped to start with? THey're cylindrical until the bottom part is jammed into the bottle neck.

The Cork on the left is an agglomerated cork wheras the one on the right has a real cork cap (the main body still looks agglomerated but the part in contact with the wine is original cork). They probably started out around the same shape before they were squeezed into the bottles but that cap is less flexible and will therefore keep its new concentrated form.
